This Christmas, we can finally plan to fill our homes with the friends and family we love, and enjoy all those simple festive traditions we missed out on last year.
With the focus firmly on warmth, comfort, and tradition, we’ll be looking at making our homes as cosy and welcoming as possible.
Key to creating a nurturing environment is reflecting the natural world indoors.
The beauty of nature was a real tonic during the long lockdowns of the Covid pandemic – and many of this year’s decorating trends are based around nature and sustainability.
It’s a case of the greener the better, so fill your home with flowers and plants, from Christmas wreaths and table arrangements to dried flowers and fresh holly and mistletoe foraged from trees and hedgerows.
The most on-trend decorations will be sustainable – think feather or natural holly and fir wreaths, piles of pine cones sprinkled with glitter, and slices of dried fruit.
And if you think Christmas decorations should smell as good as they look, why not revisit that old childhood favourite of clove-studded orange pomanders? They’re inexpensive, easy to make, and great to keep little fingers busy at Christmas. Just wind scarlet ribbon around an orange and fill the spaces with cloves; they make great tree ornaments, air fresheners or gifts.
Keep the natural, sustainable theme throughout the house – choose reusable crackers and recycled glassware for the Christmas table and fill your home with eco-friendly soy or beeswax candles.
